Caroline Flack’s mum says ‘sadness doesn’t go away’ after star’s death

Caroline Flack’s mum Christine Flack has opened up on how she’s coping with grief from the loss of her beloved daughter over two years after her death, as the star’s friends and family are coming together to celebrate her at Flackstock.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain with the former Love Island presenter’s friend Natalie Pinkham, Christine said the “sadness never goes away” after her daughter took her own life at the age of 40 in February 2020.

She became emotional as she admitted that while she doesn’t think the feeling will ever really leave her, she knows he still has to “get on with things” and has been excited to help plan and organise Flackstock.

Natalie, Leigh Francis and Dawn O’Porter had the idea of creating a themed festival in honour of their friend, who may have the Love Island Aftersun bar named after her following calls from fans, which is set to take place on 25 July.

Speaking to hosts Kate Garraway and Adil Ray, Christine said: “She loved dancing, singing, she loved festivals.

“There was such negativity around when she died that this was something she would have really liked.”

“It’s the best way that I think we can celebrate her,” Christine continued. “She thought about people’s feelings… this will just be positive… we’ll be singing, dancing, we’ll probably be crying.”

As Kate asked how she was coping now, Christine explained: “I just feel really sad and I don’t think that feeling is going to go.

Fighting back tears, the guest went on: “There’s a sadness but everybody has to get on with things. The sadness never goes away.”

Talking about why it was so important for her to put on the festival, Natalie explained there will be comedy, music and even dance acts for people to enjoy.

“Because of the pandemic, we didn’t get to do a memorial service for her… we’re trying to create a positive legacy for her,” she added.

Caroline’s Strictly Come Dancing friends Janette Manrara and Aljaz Skorjanec will also be putting on a special performance at the event.

There will also be music from Louise Redknapp, Fleur East and ’90s icon Natalie Imbruglia.
