Ex-Man Utd striker says youngster was bigger talent than Paul Pogba

Former Manchester United striker Josh King has revealed that he believes Ravel Morrison was a bigger talent than current Red Devils star Paul Pogba.

The trio came through United’s academy together, playing for the Red Devils’ junior and senior teams for four years before Morrison and Pogba departed Old Trafford the year before King.

They were all regular features in the reserve side managed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, though only Pogba has made the grade for United at the senior level.

All three departed United by 2013, with Morrison joining West Ham, Pogba moving to Juventus and King leaving for Blackburn Rovers.

Morrison was regularly touted as being the most talented player to graduate from United’s academy.

But the Englishman has failed to live up to that reputation, enduring a journeyman career that has seen him join 12 clubs by the age of 28.

While he is obviously talented, Morrison has failed to show his quality on a consistent basis, with his stops at each team usually relatively short.

The midfielder is now turning out for Championship crisis club Derby, having been brought to Pride Park by former United team-mate Wayne Rooney.

King meanwhile now plays for Watford, scoring in the Hornets’ 4-1 hammering of his former club last Saturday, which cost Solskjaer his job as United boss.

But the Norwegian still believes that Morrison was more talented than Pogba, who remains United’s record signing.

“Ravel Morrison or Pogba. Ravel was the biggest talent, Pogba is the better player,” he told Ben Foster’s Cycling GK YouTube channel.

“I was there for five years. It was the small things like we had to wear black boots to keep us grounded.

“When you made your debut and you get loads of people following you here and there on Twitter and you can fly but with Sir Alex Ferguson it was impossible, he kept you grounded.

“I also remember the hard work, especially in training sessions which I still do today.”
