I’ve at all times been fascinated by Marilyn Monroe and have learn and watched many accounts of her life story.
But this week I felt actually queasy as I listened to the “Unheard Tapes” which promised to unravel the thriller of her loss of life.
Author Anthony Summers recorded hours of interviews with Marilyn’s mates and associates whereas writing his best-selling 1985 biography Goddess.
And now they’ve been reduce and mashed collectively for yet one more true crime-style documentary on Netflix.
It revisits all of the previous theories about Bobby, JFK and medicines and even provides us the grotesque cash shot of 38-year-old Marilyn’s bare corpse in mattress.
But, in fact, it doesn’t “solve” the thriller as a result of the conspiracy theories are nonetheless too quite a few and profitable.

And, because the sixtieth anniversary of her loss of life approaches this August, Marilyn’s distinctive and dazzling expertise remains to be being overshadowed by her demons and her loss of life. Watching the Netflix documentary I stored pondering of that line from Elton John’s Candle In the Wind: “Hollywood created a superstar – and pain was the price you paid.”
Because the movie reveals the aching loneliness little Norma Jean Baker suffered as an orphan – “a waif” as she at all times referred to as herself.
It charts the abuse and exploitation she endured by the hands of males as she metamorphosed into the Blonde Bombshell.
And it exposes the psychological torment she suffered when she famously sang Happy Birthday, Mr President in that iconic “naked” costume.
So I felt totally sick once I noticed Kim Kardashian carrying that exact same robe on the Met Gala in New York.
The £4million frock, embellished with 6,000 crystals, is normally stored on show in a glass case on the Ripley’s Believe it Or Not Museum in Florida.
But in a revoltingly tasteless PR stunt they lent it to Kim so she may steal the present at this annual parade of millionaire show-offs.
She even shed a stone to squeeze into it… as a result of by getting beneath Marilyn’s second pores and skin meant the Monroe magic may rub off.
Not an opportunity.
Marilyn was a shining star whereas Kim can’t maintain a candle to her.
And 60 years after the sunshine went out she ought to be allowed to relaxation in peace.
