Willie Garson ‘told Sarah Jessica Parker of cancer battle before other Sex and the City co-stars’

Willie Garson kept his cancer battle a secret from his Sex and the City co-stars for a short time, but told his longtime friend Sarah Jessica Parker.

Actor Willie was 57 when he passed away in September, following a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Willie’s passing came as a shock to fans. And Willie didn’t initially unveil his cancer battle to some of the SATC cast mates, actress Cynthia Nixon has revealed.

Cynthia, 55, has told Deadline: “The death of Wille Garson was obviously, completely unlooked for, unknown.

“Sarah Jessica was the only one that knew he was sick when we were filming until things became undeniable and then we were told.

“Thankfully we were able to shoot with him not just before he was sick but after so it could be something we could discuss and listen to him about.

“I know that was very important for us and I think it was something that was important to him, too – not to be hiding that from us anymore.”

Cynthia, who plays Mirdana Hobbs in SATC and the show’s sequel And Just Like That, went on the quote Charlotte York Goldenblatt from the show, who is played by Kirstin Davis.

“As Charlotte says, ‘Death is a part of life,’ but it does remind us of how precious our loved ones are to us,” she said.

Willie appears in the first two episodes of And Just Like That as his SATC character Stanford Blatch. But, it’s not yet known how the series will handle the actor’s passing in its upcoming episodes.

Following Willie’s death, Sex and the City star Sarah, 56, shared a heartbreaking tribute to the star.

She told Vogue: “All I can say right now is that it’s as if a scoop has been taken out of me this week, and I don’t expect it to be filled.

“In time, my body will grow accustomed to this new architecture, but now I feel truly blue.

“It’s such a loss, and I think about how I’ll miss the joy of these relationships.”

She added: “I think about Willie and the show and how much we laughed.

“And I guess despite everything, that’s the headline: There’s so much good in the world, and we were all so lucky to be together, doing something we loved.”
